Electric heavy-duty truck charging infrastructure expansion
Overview
Tesla and Pilot have partnered to launch a Megacharger network designed for heavy-duty electric trucks, starting with a station in Ellabell, Georgia. This site features six stalls providing up to 1.2 megawatts of power, allowing a Tesla Semi to recover 60% of its charge in about 30 minutes.
The expansion includes plans for more sites along major US freight corridors, such as the I-5 and I-10 interstates, covering states including California, Georgia, Indiana, Nevada, and Texas. Tesla has also begun deploying Megachargers in Europe.
Further infrastructure developments are emerging to support logistics, such as a new electric semi truck charging hub announced by EV Realty in California’s Inland Empire to service the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Tesla aims to increase its megacharging post count significantly, targeting 100 operational posts this year and 700 by the end of next year.
