Electrical worker fatalities in Albania

Overview

A fatal electrical accident occurred in Tropojë near the village of Bujan during the installation of lighting poles. While workers were placing a pole onto its base, it reportedly struck power lines, causing the electrocution of 59-year-old Muhamet Sylisufaj. Three other municipal workers sustained injuries and were hospitalized.

Following this event, concerns have been raised regarding electrical worker safety across Albania. Democratic Party deputy Enno Bozdo reported that at least five electricians have died in the last three months in various locations, including Mirditë, Himarë, Pogradec, Vau i Dejës, and Tropojë. Additionally, an electrician died in Patos after an electric pole collapsed during work.

Bozdo has criticized the government, suggesting these fatalities result from a “deteriorating electrical network and insufficient workplace safety protocols,” and has called for official explanations regarding worker safety responsibilities.
