EPCG energy investment and transition progress
Overview
Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) is undergoing an intensive investment cycle to increase domestic production and reduce reliance on electricity imports. While the company reported a loss of 92.12 million euros in 2025 due to production drops at TE Pljevlja, HE Piva, and HE Perućica—resulting in 101.7 million euros in import costs—Chairman of the Board Milutin Đukanović noted that the cumulative financial result from 2021 to 2025 remains positive at 22.34 million euros. He emphasized that capital has been converted into long-term value, with fixed assets increasing by 242 million euros between 2020 and 2025.
New production capacities are currently generating approximately 330 GWh of electricity annually, with solar projects contributing over 203 GWh to more than 10,000 users. The Gvozd I wind farm is currently in trial operation, with the Gvozd 2 project planned for the future.
To support Montenegro’s energy transition, EPCG is expanding international cooperation, recently meeting with French energy companies Akuo and Qair in Paris to move toward concrete investment models. Infrastructure developments include opening bids for supervision of the Otilovići small hydroelectric plant and preparing for the installation of an eighth unit at the Perućica plant. The 40 million euro Perućica project, financed by Germany’s KfW Bank, is expected to add 50 GWh of electricity to the system and improve grid stability through balancing energy.
