Employment and labor protests in Telangana
Overview
Protests regarding employment and financial grievances have emerged across Telangana. In August, displaced families from the Yadadri Thermal Power Station demanded permanent jobs and financial assistance, while unemployed youth in Hyderabad protested for more police recruitment vacancies and an increased age limit for applicants.
By September, the focus of unrest expanded to include government employees. Led by the Telangana Employees’ Joint Action Committee (TGEJAC), workers staged demonstrations at the state secretariat to demand the clearance of pending bills, the release of overdue Dearness Allowance arrears, and the finalization of pay revision recommendations. These employees also called for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and improvements to the Employees Health Care Scheme.
