Energy sector developments and reforms in Aden

In Aden, the Third Renewable Energy, Information Technology, Communications, and Electronics Exhibition opened on August 19, 2026. The event, inaugurated by the Minister of Industry and Trade, featured local companies showcasing solar panels, lithium storage, and integrated technologies for agricultural and industrial sectors to address electricity shortages.

Following the conclusion of the exhibition on August 22, the Supreme Council for Energy met under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr. Shayea Mohsen Al-Zindani. The council discussed systemic reforms to improve electricity services, focusing on moving from temporary fixes to integrated institutional and financial reforms across generation, maintenance, and distribution. Discussions included the readiness of government facilities for solar energy installation to diversify energy sources and reduce costs. The council also addressed domestic gas shortages caused by tanker interruptions and market manipulation, calling for measures to prevent monopolies.

On the same day, the Yemeni government expanded its reform efforts by launching a national initiative to restructure state institutions and improve administrative efficiency. The Ministerial Committee for Institutional Reform held its inaugural meeting in Aden, chaired by Prime Minister Al-Zindani, to address systemic imbalances resulting from years of conflict. This program will begin with a first phase targeting specific ministries to serve as models. The committee aims to review organizational structures, eliminate overlapping jurisdictions, enhance digital transformation, and update government legislation to restore state effectiveness and improve public services.
