Enterprise shift toward digital sovereignty and hybrid cloud

Enterprise technology is experiencing a significant transition toward digital sovereignty and distributed high availability. This movement, often referred to as ‘geopatriation’, involves migrating workloads from global public clouds to localized, sovereign cloud infrastructures to ensure greater control over data, operations, and technology.

Driven by geopolitical tensions and evolving regulations, the focus of digital sovereignty is expanding. It is moving beyond simple data residency or localization toward a requirement for architectural control, ensuring that enterprises maintain administrative, operational, and technological autonomy from foreign jurisdictions.

To manage this increasing complexity, organizations are adopting hybrid cloud models. In the EMEA region, research indicates that 82% of companies are considering moving workloads from public to private clouds, with 46% having already completed such transitions. This shift is supported by a move toward platform models that utilize dedicated groups to provide shared services and standards, replacing legacy infrastructures and siloed IT teams.
