Entrepreneurship and startup growth in North Africa and Turq

Overview

In late 2026, North African and Turkish nations implemented various strategic initiatives to strengthen their startup and entrepreneurship ecosystems. In Morocco, Banque Centrale Populaire and Réseau Entreprendre Maroc established a partnership to provide mentorship and financing for young entrepreneurs. Tunisia also introduced new financing initiatives and capital increases through Smart Tunisie, while the Banque Maghrébine d’Investissement et de Commerce Extérieur announced plans to expand its credit portfolio for the Maghreb region. In Türkiye, the government set a target to produce 100,000 technology startups by 2030 and announced plans to develop Terminal Istanbul as an investment hub.

Following these institutional efforts, Morocco reported a significant rise in entrepreneurial activity. Data from the Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property indicated that over 60,000 new businesses were registered in the country during the first seven months of 2026. Additionally, Moroccan nationals emerged as the leading group of foreign individual entrepreneurs in Italy, holding over 53,000 sole proprietorships as of June 2026.
