Environmental investigation of coastal discoloration in Panm

Overview

The Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente) in Panama has launched an investigation into a mysterious reddish stain discovered along the shores of Vista Mar and San Carlos beaches in the Panama Oeste province.

Following a citizen report, technical teams from the Coastal and Marine Section are coordinating with the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) and the Panama Aquatic Resources Authority (ARAP) to assess the area. Officials have collected water and material samples for laboratory analysis to determine the substance's composition and origin. Authorities noted that similar discolorations have previously been caused by accumulated algae fragments or massive microalgae blooms, commonly known as red tides.
