Equinor gas discoveries in the North Sea
Overview
Equinor has reported significant gas discoveries in the North Sea. In mid-October, Equinor, Petoro, and OMV Norge announced a find at the Gullfaks Sør field, estimated to contain between 3.3 and 10.6 million oil equivalent barrels. Production director Gunnar Egge described the discovery as “highly positive” due to its cost-effective drilling and expected profitability.
By late October, Equinor updated estimates for the Afrodite discovery near the Kvitebjørn field, stating that recoverable amounts of gas and condensate are now projected to be between 77 and 180 million oil equivalents. This figure more than doubles previous calculations. While extraction faces challenges due to slow gas flow, Equinor is evaluating a subsea development that could supply the European market via the Kollsnes processing plant.
