Erdemir industrial and renewable energy expansion
Overview
Erdemir, part of the OYAK Maden Metalürji Group, is expanding its industrial capabilities and sustainability efforts through specialized production and renewable energy investments.
In Romania, the company’s Bucharest-based facility is targeting the European electric vehicle market by producing high-quality Non-Grain Oriented (NGO) electrical steel. The plant is developing “E-Car” steels designed with lower magnetic losses for use in electric motor cores. Currently, 90 percent of the facility’s 150,000-ton annual capacity is exported to Europe and the United States.
Simultaneously, Erdemir has received environmental approval for a 2.8 billion TL solar power plant project in the Çaldıran district of Van, Turkey. The 85 MWe facility will utilize over 185,000 solar panels to produce approximately 200 million kWh of electricity annually. This project aims to meet the company’s internal energy needs while reducing carbon intensity in its steel production processes.
