Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra 2026-

Overview

The Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra has conducted a series of performances as part of its 2026-2027 season.

In early October, the orchestra held a tribute concert commemorating the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death. Conducted by Orhun Orhon, the program featured soprano Greta Feeney and pianist Cihan Yücel. The repertoire included arias by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, specifically Mozart’s concert aria K. 505, followed by Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2.

Following this, the orchestra hosted a sold-out concert led by Hancheng Guo, the second-place winner of the Eskişehir International Gürer Aykal Conducting Competition. Featuring pianist Eren Yahşi, the performance included Sibelius’s ‘Valse triste’, Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. This event was part of a seasonal initiative to feature award-winning conductors to support professional development and public musical engagement.

On October 25, the orchestra presented a ‘Legend and Future’ concert to commemorate the 200th anniversaries of the deaths of both Ludwig van Beethoven and Carl Maria von Weber. Conducted by Gürer Aykal with pianist Başar Can Kıvrak, the program included Weber’s ‘Oberon Overture’, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, and Edward Elgar’s ‘Enigma Variations’. As an encore, Kıvrak performed a piece by A. A. Saygun in anticipation of Republic Day. Mayor Ayşe Ünlüce attended the performance to thank the musicians for bringing these masterpieces to the local audience.
