Eswatini-Taiwan economic and diplomatic cooperation
Overview
During a diplomatic visit to Taiwan, King Mswati III of Eswatini and Taiwanese officials established a working plan for the development of the Taiwanese Industrial and Innovation Park (TIIP). The project is slated to occupy 500 hectares of land in Eswatini and aims to attract at least 30 Taiwanese companies specializing in electronics, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.
The TIIP is described as an E6 billion project that will incorporate industrial spaces, residential areas, and energy infrastructure. The King emphasized the park as a model for Eswatini’s national industrialization strategy and discussed the necessity of sustainable energy solutions, such as solar, wind, and biomass, to support growth.
Beyond industrial development, the visit highlighted long-standing aviation cooperation, including pilot and maintenance training, and included tours of agricultural innovation centers. During his stay in Taipei, the King also announced a royal gift of US$500 for Eswatini nationals residing in Taiwan.
