Etna Forum regional development discussions

The second edition of the Etna Forum launched in Ragalna, Sicily, serving as a political and cultural platform to discuss the future of the region and the Mezzogiorno. Scheduled from August 26 to 30, 2026, the event addresses Sicily’s role as a European border regarding defense, development, and immigration.

High-profile participants include Sicilian Regional President Renato Schifani, the Mayors of Catania and Ragalna, Senate President Ignazio La Russa, and Senator Daniela Santanché. The program integrates political and economic debates with cultural elements, such as musical performances and an award presentation to Marco Tardelli.

During the proceedings, Senator Santanché outlined the ‘Etna 2030’ project, an initiative designed to transform the area into an international festival destination comparable to Salzburg or Spoleto. This proposal envisions a month-long series of debates, music, cinema, and gastronomic events to drive economic value and employment. To unify twenty local municipalities, the project suggests implementing an ‘EtnaCard’ to encourage longer tourist stays and a cohesive regional identity. Discussions also focus on the economic potential of Mount Etna, specifically regarding tourism, scientific research, and the promotion of local products like volcanic wines, pistachios, and ceramics.
