EU-Denmark-Greenland development cooperation
Overview
The European Union, Denmark, and Greenland have entered into new cooperative agreements focused on infrastructure and development. In September 2026, the EU pledged a €200 million investment package for Greenland to be distributed through 2027, targeting sectors such as clean energy, digital connectivity, fisheries, and climate mitigation. This commitment included a proposal to increase direct aid to €530 million within the 2028–2034 EU budget.
Following this, Denmark and Greenland established a joint working group to address the territory’s housing crisis. The partnership aims to modernize worn-down housing stock, with a deadline for determining necessary steps set for spring 2027. However, researchers from the Technical University of Denmark have noted that the scale of the housing issues may require more funding and fundamentally new renovation approaches than currently proposed.
