European Athletics Championships competition

The European Athletics Championships in Birmingham featured various qualifying performances and finals from Greek and Slovenian athletes.

Greek pole vaulters Katerina Stefanidi and Ariadni Adamopoulou both secured spots in the finals. Stefanidi, competing in her seventh European Championship, cleared 4.50 meters to qualify, while Adamopoulou secured 11th position after clearing 4.40 meters on her first attempt. In the women’s pole vault final, Stefanidi achieved a new season best by clearing 4.60 meters, finishing in sixth place after failing to clear 4.70 meters. Adamopoulou, making her first European Championship final appearance, cleared 4.30 meters but finished 11th after failing at 4.45 meters.

In other Greek events, Dimitris Pavlidis qualified for the discus throw final with a mark of 63.14m, and Christos Frantzakis finished 10th in the hammer throw final with a throw of 75.72m. Additional Greek participation includes Emmanouil Karalis and Giannis Rizos in the men’s pole vault qualifiers, Eleni Tsengko in the women’s javelin, and Anastasia Dragomirova in the heptathlon. In the high jump, Antonis Merlos and Andrea Mita both advanced to the final, while Panagiota Dosi competed in the event. Sprinters Sotiris Gkaraganis and Vasilis Myrianthopoulos also participated in the 200m heats.

Slovenian results were mixed. Discus thrower Kristjan Čeh advanced to the final after reaching the automatic qualifying mark of 66 meters on his first attempt with a throw of 67.52 meters. However, pole vaulter Tina Šutej failed to qualify, finishing 13th after three unsuccessful attempts at 4.50 meters. Šutej attributed her performance to a lack of coordination, stating, “Everything went wrong from the start.”
