In May 2024, two historic chapels at the UNESCO-listed Kalwaria Zebrzydowska sanctuary in Poland were defaced with satanic-style graffiti. The Bernardine nuns overseeing the shrine described the act as ‘an assault on our shared history and values.’ No suspect was identified, though prosecutors in Wadowice treated the incident as damage to cultural property and an offense against religious feelings, which carries a potential ten-year sentence.

On 28 July 2026, the outdoor altar of the Church of St James and two Virgin Mary statues at the Medjugorje pilgrimage site in Bosnia-Herzegovina were vandalized with black spray-paint and a banner accusing the six alleged visionaries of fraud.
