European cities building new skateparks

Overview

In late July 2026, Italian municipalities began expanding urban skate facilities. Construction started on a large‑scale, American‑style skatepark in Turin’s Parco Dora, with a bowl, metal tubes and a concrete surface slated for completion by late August 2027 and opening in spring 2027. At the same time, Budrio opened the Sherwood Skatepark within Guya Park, emphasizing a zero‑impact design and funded through the Periferie grant.

A week later, Romanian cities announced similar investments. Craiova inaugurated the Skate Park Craiova, the second phase of the Fantasy Park project, offering modern areas for skateboarding, rollerblading, BMX, MTB and scooters, with safety rules and equipment rentals. In Brașov, the city council approved a partnership with the Ion Țiriac Foundation to build a multi‑sport complex on the former Noua swimming pool site, featuring an ice rink, judo and fencing halls, courts, tracks and accessible facilities.

These developments illustrate a broader trend across Europe of municipal authorities investing in skateboarding and multi‑sport infrastructure to promote youth engagement, recreation and community well‑being.
