European drone defense technology investments

In Germany, several states are allocating significant funds for interception technology. Baden-Württemberg is investing 2.5 million euros, Hessen 10 million euros, Lower Saxony 7.3 million euros, and Saxony up to 7.9 million euros through 2028. In North Rhine-Westphalia, Interior Minister Herbert Reul emphasized the importance of protecting military sites and logistics hubs, while also criticizing the “jurisdictional chaos” between federal and state authorities regarding defense responsibilities.

Similarly, the Netherlands is investing in laser weapon technology to neutralize drones. State Secretary for Defence Gijs Tuinman noted that laser systems offer a faster and more cost-effective alternative to missile systems like the Patriot, especially when facing large numbers of drones. This initiative involves collaboration with an Australian company and the Dutch research organization TNO to develop systems domestically, aiming to reduce dependence on foreign air defense equipment.
