European heavy-duty electric vehicle charging expansion
Overview
New high-power charging infrastructure for heavy-duty electric vehicles is being deployed across Central Europe to support logistics decarbonization.
In the Czech Republic, E.ON Drive opened the country’s first Megawatt Charging System (MCS) station near the D1 motorway in Mořice. The facility provides 1000 kW of power, intended to allow electric freight trucks to recharge during mandatory driver safety breaks. This follows a 75 million CZK investment in the location.
In Austria, Siemens and OMV inaugurated a commercial charging station in Kufstein using the SICHARGE FLEX system. Situated on the Brenner route connecting Germany and Italy, the station is designed to charge electric trucks from 20% to 80% capacity in approximately 45 minutes. The system offers modular power outputs ranging from 480 kW to 1.68 MW and is intended to facilitate the electrification of heavy transport by minimizing downtime.
