European Mobility Week urban initiatives
Overview
Various European cities are participating in European Mobility Week under the theme of providing mobility for everyone.
In Poland, Kraków and Tychy are hosting events focused on sustainable transport and road safety. Kraków’s program includes a ‘Safe Driving Town’ at the M1 Shopping Center on September 12, featuring crash simulators, emergency technique training, and first aid demonstrations. In Tychy, activities scheduled from September 16 to 22 include night-time photography walks, roller skating, running, and cycling raids, alongside an open day at the PKM and TLT depots featuring technical demonstrations and displays of new and vintage buses and trolleybuses.
In Croatia and Slovenia, initiatives focus on intergenerational and accessible movement. In Maribor, Slovenia, the 25th anniversary of the event includes professional meetings on the future of mobility and the ‘Walking Bus’ initiative to encourage active commuting to school, with a specific focus on mobility for persons with disabilities.
In Croatia, Pula will observe a Car-Free Day on September 22, restricting private vehicles on the Lungomare road. Zagreb is also marking its 25th year of participation with 150 free activities, including an expansion of its bike-sharing system and the introduction of new electric buses. Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević has emphasized that increasing the use of bicycles and public transport helps reduce the number of cars on the road.
