European mountain rescue training and competitions

Overview

Emergency response teams in Europe have engaged in various training and competitive exercises to enhance technical and medical skills.

In Como, Italy, the Alpine and Speleological Rescue XIX Lariana Delegation conducted a drill at the Triangolo Lariano station. The exercise involved twenty-three rescuers practicing technical-medical scenarios, such as using the NEXT extraction tool and navigating steep terrain with stretchers to prepare new technicians.

Later in the month, the Rescue 2026 event in Slovakia featured professional development through simulated mass-casualty incidents. A winning scenario designed by medical professionals from the Moravian-Silesian Region Emergency Medical Service simulated a passenger train accident requiring triage. Concurrently, the 15th annual Dolomiti Rescue Race in the Italian Dolomites brought together 77 teams from eight different countries to test physical fitness and coordination through demanding mountain terrain.
