European peace and reconciliation initiatives

Overview

In late September and early October 2026, various peace and reconciliation initiatives were organized across Europe, with a significant focus on Italy.

Initial activities included the seventh edition of ‘Il coraggio della pace disarma’ in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy, which addressed disarmament, international politics, and the situation in Palestine. Simultaneously, UNESCO in Paris hosted the ‘Calling for Peace’ initiative to mark the International Day of Peace, utilizing symbolic artwork to represent human rights and climate protection.

By mid-October, peace-focused programming expanded across several Italian cities. Events included the 11th International Day of Forgiveness in L’Aquila, a National Assembly of Cities for Peace in Perugia to discuss the role of local governments in human rights, and diplomatic training for young leaders in Belvedere Marittimo. Other regional activities in Cosenza and Molfetta focused on the future of new generations and community workshops centered on peace.
