European ski teams training in South America
Overview
European national alpine ski teams have commenced seasonal training camps in South America to prepare for upcoming World Cup and European Cup competitions. This move allows athletes to train in snowy conditions while European glaciers face melting challenges.
The Austrian Ski Federation (ÖSV) has deployed approximately 17 tons of equipment to various locations in Argentina and Chile, including La Parva, El Colorado, Valle Nevado, Portillo, and Ushuaia.
Similarly, the Italian national team is conducting a month-long camp in La Parva, Chile, with some athletes scheduled to move to Valle Nevado later in September. For the Italian team, the training carries emotional weight as athletes return to the site where teammate Matteo Franzoso died following a serious accident during a training run last year.
