European vehicle fire‑risk recalls

In early July 2026, Cyprus announced the recall of dozens of vehicle models after authorities identified fire and injury hazards associated with the vehicles. The action signalled heightened scrutiny of automotive safety across the region.

A few weeks later, in August 2026, French automaker Citroën launched a Europe‑wide recall covering models produced between 2022 and 2025. The recall targeted a defect in the high‑pressure fuel pipe that could allow fuel to leak and, in extreme cases, ignite. The issue was traced to bolts that may not have been properly tightened during manufacturing. The recall, listed under code GJ6 and coordinated through the European Safety Gate system and Portugal’s consumer protection agency, includes the C3 Aircross V3, C3 V5, C4 V3, C4X, C5 Aircross, C5 Aircross V2, C5X and Basalt. Owners are instructed to verify their VINs with authorised dealers, and repairs are provided free of charge. These developments illustrate a coordinated effort across European jurisdictions to address fire‑related safety defects in a range of vehicle models.
