Event cancellations in Kelowna due to wildfires

Overview

Wildfires and deteriorating air quality in Kelowna, British Columbia, have led to the cancellation of several scheduled community events.

On August 7, organizers cancelled the annual Argus Apple Triathlon, which was set to include the Age Group National Championships. The decision was made to prioritize the health of participants and to avoid diverting emergency resources away from the Quilpituk Creek wildfire.

Following this, on August 12, the Kelowna Made festival, originally scheduled for August 14 to 16, was also cancelled. Mayor Tom Dyas cited community safety and the demands on emergency resources as primary motivations, noting that Environment Canada had issued a yellow air quality alert for the Okanagan region.
