Explosive attacks in Manizales

Overview

Authorities in Manizales launched a special operation to capture those responsible for two explosive detonations in the Sierra Morena and Ondas del Otún sectors. While no injuries or fatalities were reported, the blasts caused damage to infrastructure and the facades of more than 10 homes. Officials identified the acts as attempts by illegal armed groups to “destabilize public order.”

In response, an extraordinary security council was convened involving the Mayor, the Metropolitan Police Commander, and the Ayacucho Battalion Commander. More than 200 personnel from the National Police and the Army have been deployed to the streets to maintain security and protect the city.
