Extradition of Ashley Paul Griffith

Overview

Ashley Paul Griffith, a former childcare worker currently serving a life sentence in Queensland for 307 offences, has been approved for extradition to New South Wales. The Brisbane Magistrates Court granted the transfer following applications from the Attorneys-General of both states.

Griffith faces approximately 180 to 202 additional charges involving indecent assault and the production of child abuse material. These charges relate to alleged offences committed against 23 girls at a Sydney childcare centre between 2014 and 2017.

Following his transport from a maximum security prison by road, Griffith will remain in custody in New South Wales pending trial. It has been noted that he will serve his sentence in whichever state imposes the longest term.
