Extradition of Octavio Jorge Cortés Jiménez

Overview

Octavio Jorge Cortés Jiménez, a Mexican national accused of attempted femicide, was apprehended by the U.S. Coast Guard off the coast of San Diego while attempting to enter the United States illegally via an improvised boat. The charges against him involve a June 29, 2026, assault on a female receptionist at the Park Life Paradox hotel in the Santa Fe area of Mexico City, an incident captured on surveillance footage showing the suspect physically and verbally attacking the employee.

Following his detention, Cortés Jiménez was deported to Mexico via the Tijuana border crossing on October 16, 2026, through a coordinated effort between Mexican and United States authorities. Upon his return, he was handed over to the Mexico City Prosecutor's Office (FGJ-CDMX). Mexican authorities had previously issued an arrest warrant and requested an Interpol Red Notice to locate him after he was suspected of fleeing the country. He was transferred to the Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Oriente in Iztapalapa to await judicial proceedings.
