Fat Dog album release ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’
Overview
The South London band Fat Dog has released their second studio album, titled ‘Cancel Me (I’m Tired)’, via Domino Records. The record is described as a diverse and chaotic blend of genres, including electro, punk, art-pop, rock and roll, country, techno, and psychedelic rock.
Following the success of their 2024 release ‘Woof’, this new project marks a stylistic evolution. Produced by Oli Bayston, the album shifts the band’s sound from dance-punk toward a more structured electronic and rave-influenced direction, utilizing repetitive motifs, synth textures, and driving basslines to create a high-energy, club-oriented atmosphere. The 10-track album maintains the group’s signature unpredictable sound while introducing more vulnerable elements, such as in the track ‘Call It What You Want’.
The themes within the album explore exhaustion, burnout, addiction, and dissatisfaction with the modern world, reflecting the pressures of the music industry and the personal transformations experienced by band members during recent touring cycles. The recording process was reportedly intense for frontman Joe Love, who experienced sleep deprivation and hallucinations.
Key tracks include the title track, which draws inspiration from Anatolian psychedelia, and ‘Go Fuck Urself’, described as a high-energy pop anthem. The band’s lineup has also changed since its 2022 inception, with only Joe Love, Chris Hughes, and saxophonist Morgan Wallace remaining. To support the release, a promotional campaign was held at select Tower Records locations in Japan, featuring in-store lotteries for exclusive merchandise and bonus tracks on the Japanese CD release.
