Fatal building and construction accidents in Istanbul
Overview
A series of fatal incidents involving buildings and construction sites has been reported in Istanbul.
In mid-September, two separate accidents occurred in the Büyükçekmece and Küçükçekmece districts. A landslide at a residential construction site in Büyükçekmece resulted in the death of a 39-year-old worker, while a partial collapse during an urban transformation demolition in Küçükçekmece injured three passersby. Authorities took several individuals into custody or for questioning to investigate potential safety negligence.
In early October, a fire broke out on the roof of a two-story building in the Fatih district. Emergency responders faced difficulties accessing the site due to narrow streets and parking issues. One person was found dead inside the structure, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway.
