Fatal collision involving stolen vehicle in New Jersey

A fatal head-on collision occurred in Mays Landing, New Jersey, involving a stolen vehicle and a sedan. The crash, which took place near the intersection of Route 50 and Third Street, resulted in the deaths of Robert Barr Jr., 54, and Alice Stilwell, 67.

Reports indicate the collision involved a stolen 2024 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, valued at approximately $220,000, that had been taken from Longport. Law enforcement in Longport and Hamilton had been pursuing the vehicle before it struck the victims' Hyundai sedan, sending the sedan into a nearby gas station. During the pursuit, the stolen SUV was reportedly traveling at high speed on the wrong side of the road.

Following the crash, four occupants of the stolen vehicle attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended. Nayshaun Brown, 18, and three juveniles face various charges, including conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, joyriding, eluding, and theft by receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Investigators are currently working to determine which individual was driving the SUV at the moment of impact. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is investigating the incident, as state law requires an investigation into any death occurring during an encounter with law enforcement acting in an official capacity.
