Fatal drowning incidents in South America and Europe

Overview

Reports indicate several fatal drowning incidents occurring in various regions including Bolivia, Brazil, and Portugal.

In late September, a 70-year-old farm caretaker was found dead in a stream in the Bajo Virtudes community of Bolivia. In Brazil, a 37-year-old man died during a boating accident in a deep pit in the rural area of Fazenda Rio Grande near Curitiba after a small vessel overturned.

By mid-October, a 70-year-old man died in Portugal after slipping on rocks while fishing in the Dão River. Concurrently, in Praia Grande, Brazil, a 16-year-old boy was found dead in the sea at Aviação Beach following a disappearance during a trip. Authorities noted that the São Paulo coastline has recorded 85 drowning deaths since the start of the year.
