Fatal Immigration Department truck crash in Kuala Lumpur

A fatal traffic accident occurred in Kuala Lumpur involving a Malaysian Immigration Department truck. The incident took place at the Maju Junction intersection on Jalan Sultan Ismail around 1:00 AM. An Immigration Department truck, which was traveling to collect undocumented migrants with its siren and beacon activated, reportedly entered the intersection while the traffic light was red. This resulted in a collision with a Proton Saga, causing the truck to lose control and strike pedestrians and another vehicle.

The crash resulted in the deaths of 53-year-old Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaik Yahya and his two daughters, aged 25 and 12. The victims' mother, 55, was injured and remains in stable condition at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Following the incident, the driver of the Immigration truck, Mohd Akbar Zainol, pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Lumpur High Court to five charges, including dangerous driving causing death and failing to obey traffic signals. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. Subsequently, the Perak state government began reviewing aid for the surviving family members, with the Social Welfare Department conducting follow-up visits to coordinate psychosocial support and financial assistance.
