Fatal residential and accidental fires in Indonesia

Overview

Two separate fatal fire incidents occurred in Indonesia in October 2026.

In South Jakarta, an 80-year-old woman died during an early morning house fire in the Pesanggrahan district. The blaze, suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit, affected an 80-square-meter residence and left seven people homeless. Firefighters managed to localize the flames to prevent spread to neighboring buildings.

In Probolinggo Regency, a 70-year-old local official died while attempting to extinguish a fire in Lambangkuning Village. The incident began when the individual was burning dry bamboo leaves and waste, which spread rapidly due to wind and dry conditions. The victim, who had a history of respiratory issues, was overcome by smoke and flames and died at the scene.
