Fatal robbery of driver in Santo Domingo Este

Overview

In Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic, 48-year-old driver Félix Valentín Casalinovo Trinidad was killed during a suspected robbery in the Las Américas sector.

Reports indicate that Casalinovo picked up four men near the intersection of Calle 9 and Avenida 25 de Febrero. Upon realizing the situation was an attempted robbery, he tried to flee, but the suspects pursued and shot him. Despite his injuries, he attempted to reach the Hospital Traumatológico Dr. Darío Contreras on foot, but he collapsed and died on a pedestrian bridge in front of the medical center.

While initial reports identified him as an InDrive driver, the platform later issued a statement clarifying that the incident did not occur during a trip requested through its application. It was also revealed that Casalinovo was a former lieutenant of the National Police. His family noted that he frequently sent videos of local crime and emergencies to relatives to warn them about the dangers of the city's streets.

Following the crime, police operations led to the detention of a 17-year-old suspect, while authorities continue to search for three other fugitives linked to the assault. The National Police, including the Homicide Division and the Department of High-Technology Crime Investigation (DICAT), are continuing their investigation.
