Overview

Reports from late September and early October 2026 indicate several fatal incidents in Guatemala and Ecuador.

In Guatemala, a road accident caused the deaths of a mother and son, while a separate investigation is underway in the Jutiapa department after a man found his wife and two children dead in their home, with preliminary reports suggesting asphyxiation. In Ecuador, a businessman was found dead in a rural area of the Montecristi canton after being reported missing.

On October 2, Ecuador experienced two additional vehicle accidents. A passenger bus overturned in the El Oro province, injuring 18 people but resulting in no fatalities. In the Alausí canton, a truck overturned, causing two deaths and two injuries. Authorities in both instances are investigating the circumstances of the accidents.
