FC Twente UEFA Conference League campaign

FC Twente entered their second UEFA Conference League league phase match against Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps seeking a second consecutive victory following a 1-0 win over FC Thun. Despite facing squad challenges due to an injury to Filip Thorvaldsen, the Dutch side traveled to the Europa Point Stadium prepared to play on artificial turf.

During the match, FC Twente established a 3-1 lead. Van den Belt opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and a goal by Wout Weghorst was awarded following a VAR review. Lincoln Red Imps managed to reduce the deficit after a free kick by Nano deflected off a wall, but the Dutch side maintained their advantage.

Thomas van den Belt ultimately led the team to a 4-1 away victory by scoring twice, with his second goal arriving in the 57th minute. Daouda Weidmann added a final goal during stoppage time to seal the result. Following the match, manager John van den Brom expressed satisfaction, noting that while the team “lost focus briefly before halftime,” the win was well-deserved. The victory leaves FC Twente with a perfect start to the tournament, earning six points from their first two matches.

Looking ahead, the club faces potential logistical challenges for an upcoming away match against Aarhus GF. Due to safety concerns regarding the structural integrity of the Mascot tribune at Cepheus Park, a section of the stadium has been closed. It remains unclear if this will impact ticket availability for traveling supporters.
