FCT land administration and property management reforms
Overview
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has implemented administrative changes and streamlined land processes within the FCT Administration.
Initially, the Minister ordered the immediate closure of the Secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses (SFGH) following the completion of its assignment. Responsibilities for the sale of Federal Government Houses were transferred to a new division within the Department of Land Administration. Authorities warned the public to be wary of fraudsters claiming to represent the defunct committee.
Subsequently, the FCT Administration reported a significant increase in the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy. Since May 2023, Minister Wike has signed 26,272 certificates, a figure the administration noted exceeds the total issued between 2010 and 2023. To improve the ease of doing business, the administration has introduced an automated notification system, allowing allottees to receive documents within two weeks of payment to facilitate access to financing and collateral.
