Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina social benefit updates

Overview

The Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has implemented significant increases to social welfare payments, specifically targeting disability and veteran benefits.

Following a 14-year freeze on disability benefits that began in 2009, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Policy has more than doubled monthly payments for individuals with 100 percent disability. Under the current mandate of Minister Adnan Delić, monthly benefits for those qualifying for three primary rights have risen from 403.37 KM to 897.35 KM. Budgetary allocations for these rights have increased from 142 million KM to 336 million KM. New legislation now ties benefit calculations to 50 percent of the veteran's base to prevent future long-term freezes.

To further improve the socio-economic status of veterans, the government has adopted six decisions regarding coefficients, bases, and amounts for the 2026 budget. For the period of July to December 2026, the base for veteran-disability protection has been set at 1,216.02 KM. For demobilized defenders and their families, an existential benefit of 6.44 KM has been established for each month served in the Armed Forces. Additionally, a coefficient of one has been set for the calculation of monthly benefits for recipients of war recognitions and decorations.

In a separate measure, the government approved 195,679.14 KM to address outstanding pension and disability insurance obligations, specifically to integrate the working seniority of eight workers from the Breza Coal Mine (RMU Breza) who had not yet met retirement conditions.
