FICC 2026 cultural festival in Boyacá
Overview
The 53rd International Peasant Culture Festival (FICC 2026) in Boyacá, Colombia, includes the II Departmental Night of Museums and the XV Night of Museums in Tunja. The scheduled program involves 40 cultural activities across 29 museums and 21 cultural spaces, spanning 13 municipalities including Tunja, Sogamoso, and Villa de Leyva. As the festival commenced, the historic center of Tunja served as a venue for various performances. Activities included dance groups from Mexico, Romania, and Chile at Plaza de Bolívar, as well as musical presentations at Pila del Mono and the Auditorio Boyaquirá. The program also features circus acts, oral storytelling, and theatrical adaptations such as ‘El Túnel’ by the Argentine group La Cuarta Pared at the Teatro Mayor Bicentenario. As part of the festivities, the CosechArte fair is being held near the La Independencia stadium in Tunja. The fair features 82 exhibitors from 39 municipalities showcasing emeralds, crafts, gastronomy, and local agricultural products. Organizers aim to increase direct sales by 50% compared to 2025, when sales reached nearly $1,000 million pesos. The fair includes the ‘Estrella Boyacá’ cooking competition and musical performances by groups such as Bandola. Additionally, the FICC supports the XIX Convite Cuna Carranguera in Tinjacá, a musical gathering that celebrates peasant identity through traditional dance and carranguera music involving various regional groups and musical schools. Following the conclusion of the festival, the Boyacá government reported record attendance, with 247,000 attendees participating in more than 400 events across 30 municipalities. Approximately 45% of participants were first-time attendees. The CosechArte fair exceeded its growth targets, recording 1.514 billion pesos in sales and 130,529 visitors, representing a 64% increase over 2025. The festival also featured a Plastic Arts Salon with 29 local artists and the premiere of the documentary short film ‘Los tesoros de Natividad’ in Tunja.
