FIFA transfer bans on Mexican clubs
Entities: FIFA · Liga MX · FC Juárez · Club Atlético Independiente · Pedro Caixinha
Overview
In late July 2026 FIFA added several clubs to its Transfer Matching System registration‑ban list. Mexican side FC Juárez (also referred to as Bravos de Ciudad Juárez) was barred from registering any new players, a sanction whose cause was not disclosed but follows a similar ban the club faced in April 2024. The ban halted a pending transfer of midfielder Rodrigo Dourado and left the team unable to strengthen its squad as it struggled at the bottom of the Liga MX Apertura table.
At the same time, Argentine club Club Atlético Independiente was placed under a FIFA registration ban after Paraguayan side Olimpia claimed that former Alajuelense forward Facundo Zabala owed roughly US$1 million plus interest. Until the dispute is resolved before FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber in Zurich, Independiente cannot sign new players.
Both bans illustrate FIFA’s ongoing enforcement of contractual and financial obligations, restricting the affected clubs’ ability to participate in the transfer market until the underlying issues are settled.
