In late July 2026 Finnish police carried out coordinated arrests across several municipalities, targeting drivers who exceeded speed limits by large margins and individuals caught driving under the influence. Notable cases included a 103 km/h driver in a 50 km/h zone, a 170 km/h driver where the limit was 120 km/h, and multiple drunk‑driving arrests with breath‑alcohol readings above legal limits.

A few days later, Fintraffic released its 2025 road‑speed study, revealing that roughly half of all drivers on Finland’s main highways exceed posted limits, with non‑compliance rising from 47 % in summer to 55 % in winter. Violations exceeding 10 km/h occurred in 10‑12 % of drivers, and speeding was linked to a majority of fatal crashes between 2019 and 2023. The study underscored the broader prevalence of speeding beyond the isolated police actions, highlighting ongoing safety challenges on Finnish roads.
