Finnish political party polling trends
Overview
The National Coalition Party launched an optimism campaign to combat social cynicism, with Prime Minister Petteri Orpo citing strong economic indicators, such as growth and rising employment, as reasons for confidence. The party emphasized fiscal responsibility and growth stimulation over labor tax increases.
However, subsequent polling by Yle indicated that the Finns Party overtook the National Coalition Party in support, receiving 16.5 percent compared to the National Coalition Party’s 16.3 percent. Prime Minister Orpo attributed the decline to the responsibilities of governing and the fact that economic improvements have not yet reached households. Data also showed a significant drop in support for the National Coalition Party among women, which fell to approximately 12.1 percent. Minister Sari Multala acknowledged the decline among both men and women, stating that work is needed to restore public trust.
Shifting preferences have also been observed among entrepreneurs. A poll by Suomen Yrittäjät shows that while the National Coalition Party remains the most popular among business representatives at 28 percent, this is a decline from 39 percent over the past year. Conversely, the Finns Party has seen rising popularity among SME representatives, reaching 22 percent from 19 percent in August. Suomen Yrittäjät CEO Mikael Pentikäinen suggested that Finance Minister Riikka Purra’s economic policy, which focuses on balancing public finances without increasing taxes on work or entrepreneurship, is driving this growth. In leadership preferences, Purra is the most favored candidate to become the next Prime Minister with 24 percent support, followed by Orpo at 15 percent.
