First aid awareness initiatives in Romania

Overview

Public first aid awareness initiatives in Romania have expanded through various regional events. In late September 2026, the ‘Maratonul Resuscitării’ (Resuscitation Marathon) was scheduled for Pitești, featuring over 60 medical professionals and SMURD volunteers to teach cardiorespiratory arrest response techniques to the public.

By mid-October 2026, activities marking World Resuscitation Day included a large-scale flashmob organized by the Romanian Red Cross at the Arcul de Triumf in Bucharest, involving over 70 volunteers. Additionally, the SMURD Foundation held a second edition of the ‘Resuscitation Marathon’ in Sibiu, where more than 80 medical professionals and emergency responders provided practical training on using automated external defibrillators and managing airway obstructions.
