Fiscal budget adjustments in Katsina and Jigawa states

Overview

In September 2026, Katsina and Jigawa states in Nigeria engaged in significant fiscal planning. Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda proposed a N828.6 billion budget for the 2027 fiscal year, titled ‘Building Your Future IV’. This proposal aimed to enforce fiscal discipline by allocating N638 billion to capital expenditure and N190.73 billion to recurrent expenditure, representing a 7.7 percent decrease from the 2026 budget.

Simultaneously, Jigawa State moved to adjust its 2026 spending. Following an Executive Council approval of a supplementary budget, Governor Umar Namadi signed a N63.478 billion supplementary appropriation bill. This legislation increased the state’s 2026 budget from N901.841 billion to N948.210 billion. The additional funds were divided between the state government, receiving N46.369 billion, and the 27 local government councils, which were designated N17.109 billion.
