Fiscal oversight and audit requests in Nuevo León

In Nuevo León, state officials and federal legislators are addressing fiscal management and budgetary requirements. Secretary General of Government Miguel Ángel Flores Serna has called for state legislators to prioritize the 2026 budget, planning a meeting with business leaders and legislative benches for early September to address fiscal needs.

Concurrently, the Mexican Congress has advanced an exhortation requesting that the Superior Auditor of the Federation (ASF) conduct a technical investigation into federal funds transferred to the Nuevo León government. This audit specifically targets public works and service contracts under the administration of Governor Samuel García.

The scope of the requested audit includes investigating potential cost overruns, corruption, and the misuse of public funds. Specific allegations involve unjustified contract awards, incomplete works, and the triangulation of funds through entities linked to individuals close to the governor. One such allegation involves a firm reportedly connected to the governor and his family that allegedly allocated over 81 million pesos to social media communication campaigns.
