Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative

Overview

The Fit India ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative, launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, has continued its nationwide rollout through various editions.

The 87th edition took place in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, at Swarn Jayanti Park. The event, themed ‘Unnat Bharat Abhiyan’, involved students from local schools participating in fitness challenges, games, and cycling within the Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence campus.

By the 88th edition, the event was held in New Delhi at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium to mark National Sports Day. This iteration featured Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian men’s cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir. Mandaviya promoted cycling as a means to combat pollution and traffic, while Gambhir characterized the program as a movement intended to foster a fitter and more self-reliant nation.
