Flag desecration and licensing violations in Johor

Overview

Authorities in Johor, Malaysia, have taken enforcement actions against industrial premises following the discovery of the Malaysian national flag and the Johor state flag being displayed upside down.

In Kulai, the state government ordered the temporary closure of a facility after the flags were found improperly positioned. The Kulai Municipal Council suspended operations pending an explanation and a formal pledge of undertaking from the company. Police launched an investigation into the incident.

In a subsequent incident in Iskandar Puteri, an industrial premises in the SILC Industrial Park was also ordered to cease operations due to the upside-down flags. During an inspection by the Iskandar Puteri City Council and police, authorities discovered additional violations, including operating without a valid business license and displaying unlicensed signage. The investigation also led to the detention of 12 foreign workers for questioning regarding their work permit status.
