Flipkart expands consumer services in India
Entities: Flipkart Plus · PayU Finance · Laurent Uguen · SBI Card · Flipkart Ltd.
Overview
In late July 2026 Flipkart announced two new consumer‑focused initiatives in India. First, the retailer launched "Flipkart Pay Later," a credit service that lets shoppers defer payment for up to 30 days, split purchases into three installments, or opt for EMI plans of three to twelve months. The product is backed by a partnership with PayU Finance and is being rolled out across Flipkart’s main site, Myntra and Flipkart Minutes ahead of the company’s Freedom Sale.
On the same day, Flipkart revealed a partnership with Netflix that gives Flipkart Plus members a complimentary 30‑day Netflix Mobile plan each month. Members earn the reward by completing four qualifying orders of at least ₹299 (or ₹499) across Flipkart, Flipkart Grocery or Flipkart Minutes within a calendar month. The offer, effective from 1 August, is presented as a recurring entertainment benefit tied to regular shopping activity.
The Netflix partnership, which began on 1 August 2026, automatically credits the 30‑day plan within the Flipkart app once the order threshold is met, and the reward can be earned again each month. Non‑Plus shoppers can qualify for membership after 15 orders in a 12‑month period. CFO Ravi Iyer said the tie‑in links everyday purchases to entertainment, while Netflix’s APAC Partnerships VP Laurent Uguen called it the streaming service’s first e‑commerce partnership in India. The initiative aims to boost repeat engagement across metropolitan and tier‑2/3 cities.
