Flooding and infrastructure damage in Libya
Overview
Torrential rains and flash floods have struck central, southern, and western Libya, resulting in significant infrastructure damage and loss of life. The Libyan Red Crescent reported deaths in the Sokna area, while landslides and collapsed electric poles caused power outages in Mizdah.
In Bani Walid, rescue teams were deployed to assist residents trapped by mudflows, and major roads were closed. The municipality of Nasmah was declared a disaster zone following severe wadi overflows, leading to family evacuations. In response, Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibah ordered the mobilization of resources to restore essential services, including water, electricity, and telecommunications.
